🎃Autumn Burglary Prevention Advice🏠
Sevenoaks & Swanley District
As the nights draw in and the days get shorter, we often see a rise in burglaries— Home, Garages, Sheds, and Outbuildings.
Help protect your home and belongings by following these simple steps:
Secure Your Property
- Lock all windows and doors before going out or to bed.
- Install intruder alarms, door chains, and additional locks.
- Never label your house keys—if lost, they could be misused.
Keep Valuables Out of Sight
- Don’t leave keys or valuables near doors or windows.
- Dispose of packaging carefully—empty boxes can advertise new purchases.
Secure the Outside
- Check fences, hedges, and gates are in good condition.
- Keep side gates closed and locked.
- Store ladders, tools, and garden equipment securely.
- Lock and alarm garages and sheds where possible.
- Store bins securely so they can’t be used to climb.
Lighting
- Consider installing external security lighting—just ensure it doesn’t disturb neighbours.
Be Smart with Spare Keys
- Never hide spare keys outside or in sheds.
