🎃Autumn Burglary Prevention Advice🏠

Sevenoaks & Swanley District

As the nights draw in and the days get shorter, we often see a rise in burglaries— Home, Garages, Sheds, and Outbuildings.

Help protect your home and belongings by following these simple steps:

Secure Your Property

  • Lock all windows and doors before going out or to bed.
  • Install intruder alarms, door chains, and additional locks.
  • Never label your house keys—if lost, they could be misused.

Keep Valuables Out of Sight

  • Don’t leave keys or valuables near doors or windows.
  • Dispose of packaging carefully—empty boxes can advertise new purchases.

Secure the Outside

  • Check fences, hedges, and gates are in good condition.
  • Keep side gates closed and locked.
  • Store ladders, tools, and garden equipment securely.
  • Lock and alarm garages and sheds where possible.
  • Store bins securely so they can’t be used to climb.

Lighting

  • Consider installing external security lighting—just ensure it doesn’t disturb neighbours.

Be Smart with Spare Keys

  • Never hide spare keys outside or in sheds.

🛡️Stay alert. Stay secure.
