There have been new reports of residents in Kent being contacted by criminals claiming to be Police Officers investigating financial crimes!

Criminals are asking residents to help in their "investigation” by purchasing high-value items such as jewellery or virtual currency — often under the disguise of protecting your money or claiming you are helping to catch criminals.

⚠️ Warning Signs:

  • You receive an unexpected call from someone claiming to be a police officer or from a law enforcement agency.
  • They say your bank account is compromised or involved in a financial crime.
  • They ask you to withdraw cash, buy expensive items such as jewellery, or convert money into cryptocurrency.
  • They send a “courier” to collect the items from your home address or a public place.
  • They pressure you to keep the phone call secret or not tell your bank or family!

💡 Remember:

  • Police will NEVER ask you to move money, withdraw money, ask you to buy high value items or invest in virtual currency.
  • Police will NEVER send someone to your home or arrange someone to meet you to collect money or goods.
  • If you are unsure, hang up and call your local police force by dialling 101 or attend a Police Station!

Protect Yourself:

  • Stay calm and don’t be rushed into making a big decision!
  • Never give out personal or financial information to unexpected callers.
  • Report suspicious calls immediately to Action Fraud online or by calling 0300 123 2040.

Please share this alert with friends, family, and neighbours and remember to stay vigilant and stay safe!
