SGN Gas Network Upgrade

Gas Network Upgrade – Horton Kirby and Sutton at Hone
We’re preparing to carry out essential gas network upgrades in the Horton Kirby and Sutton at Hone
areas. This work will ensure a continued safe and reliable supply of gas is delivered to nearby
homes and businesses and is part of our 30-year programme of work to replace our old mains,
reaching the end of their useful lives, with new, reliable plastic pipe.
Our contractor, WCB Utilities who are completing this project on our behalf, will be starting work
in the week beginning Monday 1 September. This is a large project, and we estimate this will take
approximately seven to eight months to complete
To ensure everyone’s safety, we’ll need to close the following roads around our excavations for the
duration of our work. The closure points will move along each road as our work progresses. Vehicle
access will be maintained for residents and businesses, but the route may change depending on where
our closure point is. Our teams will liaise with affected residents to advise of changes to access
routes. Signed diversions will be in place for affected motorists where roads are closed.
Pedestrian and cycle access will not be affected, although cyclists must dismount and walk through
the work area.
Start dates for phases three onwards will be confirmed with advance warning signs on each road in
turn.
Phase one – Franks Lane, Horton Kirby – Will be closed from Tuesday 2 September for approximately
four weeks. We’ll be replacing our pipes in sections along the full length of the road.
Phase two – Eglantine Lane, Horton Kirby – Will be closed from Monday 29 September for
approximately five weeks. We’ll be replacing our pipes in sections from the junction with Franks
Lane to the junction with Rays Hill
Phase three – Rays Hill, Horton Kirby– will be closed for approximately three weeks. We’ll be
replacing our pipes along the full length of the road.
Phase four – The Street, Horton Kirby – will be closed for approximately four weeks. We’ll be
replacing our pipes along the full length of the road.
Phase five – School Lane, Horton Kirby – will be closed for approximately five weeks. We’ll be
replacing our pipes from the junction with Forge Lane to outside number 82 School Lane. We’ll also
need to temporarily close Churchill Road while we work near its junction with School Lane.
We understand roadworks can be frustrating and we’re sorry for any inconvenience caused. We’ve
planned this work to be completed during the school summer holiday period to try to reduce the
disruption as much as possible.
The new plastic pipe has a lifespan of 80 years. This means that once our work is done, Horton
Kirby and Sutton at Hone residents and businesses will be able to enjoy the benefits of a safe and
reliable supply of gas for many years to come.
